Review
—Chris Anderson, TED Curator
"Why do we insist on representing our world using 26 letters rather than an infinity of pictures? Sunni Brown shows us how to doodle our way to better thinking. Her book will have you drawing insights on the page, not just in the margins."
—Dan Heath, co-author of Decisive, Made to Stick, and Switch
"Contrary to popular opinion, doodling is a serious endeavor. As Brown shows in this smart and accessible book, applying visual language allows you to see new dimensions of a problem -- and at times, new aspects of yourself. So get out your writing sticks and prepare to doodle!"
—Daniel H. Pink, author of To Sell is Human and Drive
“The future is filled with an ever-growing density of information, so visual literacy—the ability to think and communicate using visual language—will become an essential skill. Thankfully, The Doodle Revolution gives all of us the ability to take the leap.”
—Jane McGonigal, author of Reality Is Broken
"Doodles come straight from the Unconscious. That's partly why they work. Sunni did a beautiful job of shining a light on visual language."
—Steven Pressfield, author of The War of Art and The Legend of Bagger Vance
“There’s a reason why so many innovative companies use Sunni’s techniques for visual literacy, and it’s not just because they want to have fun. These methods offer consistently better thinking, and in the process deliver happiness as well.”
—Tony Hsieh, Zappos.com CEO and author of Delivering Happiness
“Doodling is not just a nervous habit. It nudges the mind to discover different angles and hidden connections. In the long run—and especially around new media—expressing oneself in raw text might not stand up in the face of artistic, spatial, and emotive text. Sunni has found a way to validate and systematize a new language that enables thinking on a whole new level.”
—Robert McKee, author of Story
“Both practical and inspiring, Brown’s book reminds readers of the revolutionary power o simplicity in an information-overloaded world. A gold mine for readers interested in learning more about the benefits of increased visual literacy.”
—Kirkus
"Brown's defense of the doodle is convincing . . . this creative, fun book will definitely help you get your doodle on."

- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI Love Sunni Brown, her work and her message.
So encouraging to those of us who have an inner artist longing to come out and be expressed. Her book gives full permission to allow you creativity come out in ways to expand all your other skills, talents and thinking.
I highly recommend all of her work!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseSunni Brown’s new book “The Doodle Revolution” is not only amazing because it’s yellow, but also because it contains fantastic, important information that will make your brain grow larger than that of a sperm whale’s.
I had the pleasure of attending one of Sunni Brown’s book signings. It was an interactive event where, under Sunni’s direction and support, we participated in doodling exercises. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you it was an epiphany moment for me! I believe the value of this book resides in the concept that doodling is as natural as speaking, native to all humans, and nurturing to our creative voices.
With this in mind, the advice that Sunni gives her readers to organize their doodles in coherent ways makes it a tremendous resource for individuals and companies, and schools as well. Anyone looking for ways to tie together, connect and share ideas or independent thoughts will benefit. And it’s a great tool for deeper understanding and retaining information in our overloaded lives.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseInteresting book for someone who either enjoys doodling or would like to start. The books explains how the process of doodling helps a person better understand complex material as the material is being presented.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis was a book I would normally not buy if I was browsing in a book store. However, I saw the author on the Sunday Morning show and she intrigued me. It is a solid three stars and those of you with "presentations on white boards" job responsibilities would probably rate it much higher.
The best thing about this book was that I can now draw a stick man far better than I ever thought I could. I love that. Anyone like me who says "I can't draw" should read this book. But wait a minute! This book isn't about "drawing" is it? It is about doodling. It says so on the cover!! Don't be fooled. This is a carefully hidden book about drawing for business people that believe they can't draw and don't want to even mess with it. Very clever Sunni.
When I watched some of the examples on the show I was convinced they were art and I was right. Those things should not be called doodles. I guess if you are embarrassed to say your an artist for some reason then calling what you do doodling may give you some comfort or hide you from real art critics.
Start your own revolution.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis is the comprehensive toolkit for anyone who wants to unlock creativity, innovative thinking — either for themselves or their teams.
Visual thinking is going to play an increasingly critical role in how we work in an increasingly complex and information-overloaded world — I just saw a stat that business data is now expected to double every two years. Visual literacy and visual problem solving are also going to be huge players in more effective training, development and education.
The Doodle Revolution book itself designed as a tool for mindful innovation, I personally believe it will become the go-to resource on visual thinking tools for the 21st century business leader.
Sunni Brown is a welcome voice, busting the myth that doodling and visual tools are distracting or "only for artists" with the reality that anyone can use them and they are proven to increase engagement, retention and collaborative problem solving.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI admit that I have been a fan of Sunni's since her TED Talk (Doodlers, Unite!) and I've been waiting for the release of this eagerly. It might have taken a little while to finish properly, I skim read through the first day I received it, and do all of the activities as well - but it was well worth the wait.
For anyone who enjoys more visual note taking, this book is a great resource for understanding what is going on and to introduce you to another level of adding visualisation into your notes. And if you have seen some of the incredible visual notes on the internet and want to learn how you can bring that level of creativity into your notebooks and meetings then this is a great resource to teach you how to do just that.
Thanks for the fantastic resource Sunni
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThe book is an inspiring innovation and learning toolkit designed to ignite the mind. Immensely helpful for anyone seeking growth, creative chops and competitive advantage in the business and education worlds. It's a secret weapon!
Each page explodes with powerful ideas, instructive and colorful exercises and fun animations. A delight for every educator, creative seeker, and design-minded person -- and a great resource to keep on your desk and consult as needed. It will be hugely beneficial for teachers and parents looking to improve student focus and fun in the classroom; great for college grads entering the workforce; massively helpful for entrepreneurs working through their business problems and product/idea models, and a winner for people looking to climb the corporate ladder. It's a full-brainer read and a no-brainer, must-have book on your shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Well Written Book that provides Step-By-Step Instructions
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseAn excellent introductory guide for those new to Doodling...like myself. Sunni Brown gives you easy-to-follow instructions on how to doodle (like the Visual Alphabet and the 12 Devices). She even includes step-by-step Doodle Instructions on how to run various meetings (such as planning meetings, decision-making meetings). It's well written and a fun read. Make sure you have a pen or pencil ready to doodle as you read!
